It's been awhile!

Wow! I hadn’t realized how long it had been since I last posted! So much has happened since then….

I’m a home owner! That’s right! Through some act of magic, we even managed to close on our original date. It took a small army of people that were fighting for us, and an act of nature, but we are happy as clams! I could tell you stories of having to watch CSPAN all night to see if the government was going to shut down before Rural Development approved our loan, or the snowstorm that proved that it wasn’t actually spring here, allowing us to escrow the money needed to fix the siding on our house.
But who wants to talk about the yucky stuff when there are awesome things going on?

We set a wedding date. My parents came up to see our new house last weekend (and bring us stuff from IKEA in SLC since we have no furniture around here…). They gave us an amazing BBQ as a housewarming present! While they were here, we went to check out the venue where I wanted to get married. We didn’t let the fact that it was under 3 feet of snow deter us, and my parents decided that they liked it too. The original date that we had arbitrarily chosen was June 20th, 2012 (the summer solstice), but that had been claimed in the month since I had last checked availability. It turns out that the winning date is June 21st, 2012 (the first day of summer). Sweet.

We don’t have to pay the next 2.5 months worth of rent on our old condo. After all of the health scares and mold issues in the last year, I told them that I wanted to break our lease as I thought that the mold made the house unlivable. The meeting with them was uncomfortable and awkward, but once my landlords figured out that we had bought a house, the stopped fighting me about letting us out of our lease. Their actual words were “well you should have told us that in the first place, we wouldn’t have had to go through any of this. Now you’re a potential client.” Yeah, like I’m going to let someone who made me live with a rotting wall for 5 years near my house… But YAY! That’s an extra 3K (ish) that we don’t have to spend!

Now that we have a house and a firm wedding date, I feel light and happy for the first time in a long time. I don’t know if it’s that we are away from the moldy house, or just that we’ve achieved our dream of a fenced yard and a house, but I haven’t felt this good in a really long time. Even dislocating my rib this weekend, by lifting one more box than I should have, hasn’t brought me down.

I hope you guys have been having a great time out there, I have to try to catch up on everyone’s adventures again….
